new years eve

for new years eve we decided to go into melbourne and watch the fireworks. kane drove us, marra and tori to melbourne and we met george, geo and phil there... they went in on the train earlier to go to the casino.

kane had booked a meal at an italian restaurant on lygon street, which apparantly has the biggest selection of italian restaurants and cafes in australia. it has its origins in the early immigration of italian migrants to melbourne... bit of history for you there!

the meal was lovely and a good start to the evening. after that we made our way into the centre for a few drinks before heading to fed square where some steward lady (pictured with geo) dropped kanes camera. she was damn lucky it wasn't mine!

we got some photo's in fed square then headed down to the waterfront for the midnight fireworks.

the fireworks were really good and went on for ages. seeing new year celebrations of that scale was amazing, the number of people in the centre of melbourne was unbelievable and it created a good atmosphere.

getting back into the centre, off the waterfront was crazy. there was hundreds of thousands of people there and everyone wanted to get over the bridge back into the city all at once. we tried to get a good picture of the crowd, this is the best we could get.

it wasn't a really late night so we were up bright and early to get breakfast in brunswick street. then... suprise suprise phil went to the casino, while george and george went to the cinema to see borat. we hunted round for a cinema that showed 'marie antoinette' and finally found one, opposite the italian we went to the previous night. it was really good and i'm so glad we found somewhere to see it.

after the films and gambling, we left the city and headed back to geelong for some tea. me, greg, george and george all had steaks, while phil tackled the seafood platter.

all in all a good couple of days!
